Yianni (John) Cartledge is a Greek Studies (culture) lecturer at Flinders University and adjunct lecturer at Tabor College, Adelaide. Yianni’s PhD thesis, conferred in March 2024, explored the migration of Aegean Islanders to the UK and Australia during the nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. Yianni’s research interests include migration and the migrant experience, diaspora studies, Mediterranean histories (particularly the British and Ottoman Empires), and the history of modern Greece. Yianni is also assistant editor of the Journal of Imperial & Commonwealth History.

“As a project, I have found this book particularly exciting. Firstly, it is interdisciplinary, which is unique, and has helped redevelop my own understanding of this topic. Secondly, the editorial team are forward thinking, proactive and supportive in every way. And thirdly, it has been a really engaging, constructive and meaningful place to share my research. All in all, I feel fortunate to have been invited to be part of this volume, and it’s deeply rewarding to now see it in print.”
